Meet Ioane Tyrell, known to many as Willie — a proud alumnus of Hamilton Boys’ High School with deep ancestral ties to Faleasiu, Sataua, and Laulii in Samoa. Willie’s journey through Puatala’s Impact Programme is one we are proud to celebrate.

Willie first connected with Puatala at our inaugural STEMHUB 2021 event for secondary schools across Waikato. It was there that his interest in the electrical trades was sparked. After completing his studies at Hamilton Boys’ High School, Willie joined Puatala’s Impact Programme to continue building his pathway into employment.

With support from the Puatala team, Willie strengthened his soft skills and explored a range of opportunities before choosing to pursue a career with Northpower. He successfully completed his cadetship and has now taken the next step into an apprenticeship as a Line Mechanic.

Willie’s journey reflects his commitment, resilience, and willingness to take hold of every opportunity presented to him. His progression into an apprenticeship is a strong example of how the right support, combined with determination, can open meaningful career pathways.

Puatala is incredibly proud to acknowledge Willie’s achievements and the effort he has put into building his future. As he continues on this journey, we’re confident in his ability to succeed and look forward to seeing what lies ahead.

Congratulations, Willie — your hard work is paying off, and the future is wide open.
