Doing the Work, Not Just Talking About It

There’s a difference between attending meetings and carrying responsibility.
This month, Alana Tyrell and Sam Nonoa sat down with Regional MSD and MPP in the mighty Waikato to talanoa about advancing outcomes for Pasifika communities across the motu. The conversation was honest. Practical. Future-focused.
Because the reality is this: our communities do not need more well-worded strategies. They need follow-through.
At Puatala, partnership means showing up properly. It means knowing the families behind the data. It means understanding that when we talk about “outcomes”, we are talking about real people navigating real barriers. It also means being clear about what we can deliver and standing by it.
The work requires cultural grounding, but it also demands structure. It demands consistency. It demands people who will still be there when the initial excitement fades and the hard mahi begins.
That is the space Puatala continues to step into.
There was laughter in the room too, and that matters. Trust is not built through formality alone. It is built through shared understanding, open dialogue and mutual respect. When you can talanoa honestly and still keep the standard high, that is where real collaboration starts.
Momentum across the regions is growing. Pasifika advancement is not a box to tick. It is central to building stronger communities and a more capable workforce for Aotearoa.
Puatala is committed to awhi’ing this space with discipline, heart and follow-through.
The conversations are happening.
