At Puatala, we believe young people thrive when classroom learning connects with real-world experience. Recently, we partnered with Rosehill College to support a key student priority — placing students into meaningful work experience that opens genuine career pathways.

From School to the World of Work

Through Puatala’s trusted network of local businesses and organisations, placements were secured across electrical, construction, medical, and hospitality industries. These hosts do more than provide access — they invest time, share expertise, and actively support young people as they step into professional environments for the first time.

“It’s inspiring to see local businesses say yes so openly — giving their time and energy to support students across the country,” says Alana Tyrell, Puatala’s GM People & Culture.

Students Gaining More Than Experience

Before starting their placements, students expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity. Once onsite, they experienced the real pace and expectations of their chosen industries — from shadowing medical teams to working alongside electrical crews and hospitality staff.

Each placement offered a practical insight into daily working life, helping students understand both the demands of the role and the range of pathways available within each industry.

Building Career Pathways and Community Connections

These opportunities extend far beyond a few days on site. They help students identify strengths, build professional networks, and explore future apprenticeships or training options. For Puatala, this work strengthens the bridge between education and employment, benefiting students, schools, and local industries alike.

Next Up: A Medical Placement Story

Coming soon is a spotlight on a Rosehill College student who recently completed a medical placement — a powerful example of how early exposure can inspire a future career in healthcare.
